Steel fabricator provides bespoke solution for garden centre
A firm of Shropshire steel fabricators has used its specialist knowledge to design and develop a bespoke drainage solution for a flagship garden centre in Shrewsbury.
Telford based Fabweld Steel Products designed, fabricated and installed a security screen and platform for a concrete drainage channel headwall grille as part of the new Percy Thrower’s, a Wyevale Garden Centre development, in Oteley Road, Shrewsbury.
The multi-million pound project, which was opened earlier this year, created a new garden centre, restaurant, cafe, children’s play area and parking. It was named in memory of Shrewsbury’s famous green-fingered son, Percy Thrower, who was famed for his appearances on Blue Peter and Gardener’s World.
Fabweld took just a month to complete the order from commission to installation.
“Commission”
Managing Director Richard Hilton said: “The development required substantial drainage works and Fabweld Steel Products was commissioned due to our reputation in this sector.
“The area around the outfall pipes had to remain clear of debris to maintain their operation and prevent flooding. We created a solution that would prevent a build up of material and allow the drain to operate continually.
“It was a challenging project designed and delivered in a short time span. The trash screen, which is designed to meet the sewers for adoption 7th Edition specification and DEFRA guidelines, took just four weeks from receipt of order to completed installation on site at the garden centre.”
Mr Hilton said Fabweld’s experience with flooding and drainage issues had allowed it to respond quickly to the commission.
“The team at Fabweld has a history of being able to draw up bespoke schemes to suit individual situations. We work with the client to create and meet individual requirements and we create 3D models of the product and detailed drawings of the end product.
“This allows a client to challenge and change the design before it’s been manufactured. Tight deadlines are our specialty and our problem solving skills ensure we deal with the query efficiently with our unrivalled service and rapid lead times,” he added.
Fabweld was commissioned to draw up the scheme by PCS Consulting Engineers from Bromsgrove and designed and installed the trash screen on behalf of Birmingham’s Fitzgerald Contractors Ltd. The main contractor for the build was Speller Metcalfe, based in Malvern.
