Construction firm crowned Shropshire’s Best Company
A building contractor has been named as Shropshire’s best business after scooping the Company of the Year title at the county’s ‘business Oscars’.
The privately owned firm, which employs more than 100 people and is targeting a £35m turnover by 2022, started life 45 years ago as a civil engineering business constructing paths, drives and roads for local builders and private clients, which is how it got its name.
Over time Pave Aways took on building maintenance contracts at military and other establishments and gradually construction became the main activity of the business.
It now delivers construction projects across Shropshire, Wales, Cheshire and the West Midlands. Clients include local authorities, health boards and hospitals and schools.
Pave Aways has its head office at Knockin, near Oswestry, and a Welsh office in Benjamin Road, Wrexham. It is headed by Managing Director Steven Owen supported by Commercial Director Victoria Lawson, Construction Director Jamie Evans and Business Development Director Paul Moran.
Steven said winning Company of the Year was a defining moment for the business.
“Since the management buy-out in 2011, we have worked tirelessly to grow Pave Aways into the business it is today. One that has a reputation for delivering construction excellence with a commitment to investing in and supporting its team.
“Being named Shropshire’s Company of the Year is an honour, especially as a company that contributes so much to the county through our people, our projects and our supply chain.
“It has only been made possible by the whole Pave Aways team from back office staff to the workers on site. It’s been an incredible achievement to win this award and it puts us in a very positive position for the future growth and development of the company.”
Shropshire Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards – dubbed the ‘business oscars’ – took place at the Telford International Centre on June 14 at a ceremony attended by more than 600 people.
