Family run Black Country firm closing in on £1m turnover after just three years

A family-run Black Country roofing company is set to record a £1m turnover just three years on from launching.
Vinny Varden and his cousin Karl Varden set up Vard Innovations, a roofing and cladding company in Tipton, in June 2023 and now employs ten people having grown their turnover from £155k in their first year.
Vard is celebrating its success after being named a finalist in the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Business Awards due to be held next month.
Managing director Vinny, who has worked in the industry for 25 years, said: “From the launch three years ago to this, where we are closing in on £1m turnover, has been an amazing rise.
“Having started off providing labour to major contractors, we’re now in a place where we deliver full projects independently after big increase in demand.
“We’ve really built up a reputation for our work in the industry, and what gives us real pride alongside these figures, is the fact we are family run with family members across the team.
“Alongside Karl and I, my daughter Izzie and my brother Sean and fellow cousins Daniel and Ethan are also part of the company – that why we’re delighted to be in the running for Family Business of the Year.”
As well as enjoying rapid growth in its first three years – Vard is continuing to innovate and adapt and that is evident from their plans to start up a second venture.
With law changes meaning every roofing job requires safety netting and with the firm having to buy in expertise for this, Vinny and Karl have decided to do it themselves by setting up safety netting company, Skyentt Systems Ltd.
They have also developed strong links with key suppliers – such as national giants Capital Coated Steel and Ash & Lacy – who regularly refer work to Vard based on their track record.
“We want our business to be around for years to come for our family,” added Vinny.
“It has been an exceptional three years, and we’re excited to see what the next three years bring.”
