Manufacturer pledges investment following prestigious certification
Fabweld Steel Products is gearing up for growth in 2015 after becoming one of the first companies in the UK to meet stringent European requirements for its products.
The access cover and drainage specialist is already reaping the benefits of securing European CE-marking approval and now Fabweld is adding the prestigious BS EN1090 certification to its list of accreditations.
Bosses say as holders of both standards, they are well-placed to grow their Telford-based operations by up to 25 per cent during the next year as well as invest more than £100,000 in new product lines.
Managing director Richard Hilton said: “A company involved in steel fabrication for construction or building cannot legally carry on its business without meeting the BS EN 1090 standards under European law. It also allows products to be CE marked and shows our suppliers that we meet strict regulations in the preparation and quality of our products.
Among first in the UK for accreditation
“We’re one of the first companies in the UK to secure this accreditation and it was important for us to demonstrate at the earliest opportunity to specifiers, contractors, architects and project managers, that we can assist them in meeting their own legal obligations.
“Without a doubt, this has given us a real boost at the start of 2015 as we have ambitious plans to capitalise on being on the first wave of steel fabricators to be BS EN1090 approved.”
The Telford manufacturer is looking to invest around £100,000 in research and development as its expands its product portfolio and is also planning to take on two more apprentices this year.
Mr Hilton added: “We are fully committed to expanding our workforce and offering skilled apprentices to local people who are interested in joining a forward looking and growing business.
“It’s a very exciting time in our industry and these roles would suit young people who are interested in a future in manufacturing.”
