Montgomery House opens its doors
A series of open days will be held next week to showcase Shropshire’s newest and largest care home.
The first residents are due to move in to Coverage Care’s new home – Montgomery House in Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury – in early November.
Existing Coverage Care residents will be the first to check out the new facilities at the £8 million purpose built centre on October 24, with potential service users and professionals invited to see behind the doors on October 25.
Members of the public will be able to view the home for themselves between 4pm and 8pm on October 26.
Montgomery House is the fifth purpose-built facility that Coverage Care Services has created in the county, following on from sites in Bridgnorth, Telford, Whitchurch and Oswestry.
Named with a nod to the military past of the former Territorial Army site on which it stands, Montgomery House replaces the ageing Crowmoor House, in Monkmoor, and its residents will be the first to move into the all-ensuite bedrooms in the new building.
The opening of Montgomery House has created around 130 full and part time jobs and will fill a gap for much needed residential and nursing care in the area, said Coverage Care Chief Executive David Coull.
“Montgomery House is a significant project for Coverage Care Services and it has an important role to play in the care landscape of Shrewsbury.
“It represents the combined knowledge of everything our team has learnt in the process of building our other homes and offers high quality finishes to create a stunning home from home for residents that is designed to be focused around their needs.
“Its location is key with a modern GP surgery next door, communal and sporting facilities to keep active just along the road, shops nearby and key transport routes to and from Shrewsbury and other towns running past the door.
“We are looking forward to being able to show people the first class home that we’ve built during the open days,” he added.
Montgomery House has 90 large en-suite bedrooms set over two floors with two wings on each floor, each with their own lounge and dining areas. There are also shared communal rooms, a private garden and orangery at the rear of the building.
Individual touches include a mosaic based on the River Severn that edges a path leading from the door of the centre around the garden.
Designed by architects DWA, Montgomery House has been constructed by Castlemead Group with financial backing provided by The Royal Bank of Scotland.
