New chairman for leading care provider
The board of Shropshire’s largest independent care provider has a new chairman following the retirement from the role of his long-serving predecessor.

Former senior banker Kenneth Bean has stepped down from the chairmanship of not-for-profit Coverage Care Services after providing leadership of the board for eight years, as well as having been a board member for two years prior to that.
He has been succeeded by Ian Gordon, an existing board member with wide experience in human resources and organisational development in large businesses and as part of the School of Management at Cranfield University.
Coverage Care Services chief executive, David Coull, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have a board with a vast amount of highly valuable experience. Ken Bean has seen the company through a number of key strategic decisions as well as the successful completion and opening of three brand new homes, with another currently under way. His contribution has been invaluable and he steps down with the gratitude of everyone here. We are extremely pleased though that he has agreed to remain on the board so that we continue to benefit from his continued contribution.”
Mr Bean said: “It has been a privilege to be a part of Coverage Care Services for a number of years now. It is an organisation, which performs a crucial role and does it with great humanity and professionalism. In spite of the current pressures on care provision, the company is in good health and looking confidently to the future.”
His successor, Ian Gordon, said: “Ken leaves the post with everything in good order and on a very sound footing and we are all very grateful to him for his longstanding efforts in the role. I look forward to working with my board colleagues and the leadership team at Coverage Care Services to continue that work and help to maintain the organisation’s very positive progress.”
Coverage Care Services operates 14 residential and nursing homes across Shropshire, some of which offer specialised dementia care. The organisation is currently building its latest home at the site of the former Territorial Army centre, on Sundorne Road, in Shrewsbury.
