Steel fabricator picks up BSI accreditation for innovative product
A steel fabricator has been officially awarded top-level industry accreditation for one of its most innovative products.
Fabweld Steel Products, which is based in Telford, picked up the prestigious British Standards Institution Kitemark at a ceremony at the BSI Milton Keynes headquarters.
The Kitemark was awarded to the firm’s SOLO SLIDE® recessed cover and frame that features a unique lifting mechanism. The cover can be filled with material to blend in with the surrounding area and has been used in high profile locations including Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square.
Fabweld Managing Director Richard Hilton, who collected the award with Operations Director Wayne Carter, said: “We are delighted to have formally received the award.
“It is testament to the hard work of our team that we have secured the Kitemark as it was a product that came from our own research and development to fill a gap in the market.
“Everyone at Fabweld has been invested in making it a success so it’s given a huge boost to the staff. Achieving this certification has had a very positive effect because it’s independent verification that the product we worked so hard to create is of the highest quality and safety.
“There’s no doubt that having the Kitemark will also give further peace of mind to our customers that they are buying something that meets the stringent standards set by the BSI.”
SOLO SLIDE also has BS EN 124 certification to meet European standards to A15 and B125 loads.
An A15 rating certifies it as capable of withstanding a 1.5 tonne test load, so it is suitable for use in areas where only pedestrians have access.
B125 relates to access covers and gratings capable of withstanding a 12.5 tonne test load, making SOLO SLIDE suitable for use in car parks and pedestrian areas where only occasional vehicular access is likely.
