Steel fabricators feature on TV garden show
A firm of Shropshire steel fabricators has tackled a thorny issue to provide the finishing touches for a TV garden makeover.
Telford based Fabweld Steel Products (FSP) created laser cut decorative steel thistles for a transformation on the ITV show Love Your Garden that is presented by Alan Titchmarsh.
The thistles were used as decorative ornamental pieces in the Scottish themed garden designed for RSPCA officer Caroline Hall in Horwich near Bolton.
She moved from her native Scotland for her full time job as an inspector with the animal charity inspector but a near fatal spinal stroke left her paralysed from the neck down at the age of 33.
She learned to walk again with the use of sticks but is mostly confined to a mobility scooter leaving her unable to tend her much loved garden, which turned into an inaccessible wilderness.
Viewers saw Caroline’s wasteland of a garden turned into a spectacular animal friendly haven that she is free to move around in at the hands of the Love Your Garden team.
FSP’s work was revealed on the show in July with an episode in August showing the firm’s SoloSlide® manhole covers being utilised in the redesign of a garden in Durham.
The popular show is in its sixth series and the team undertakes challenging garden revamps for people who deserve it most.
Managing Director Richard Hilton said the firm had been delighted to help with the makeovers.
“We were approached by the production company and were more than happy to help provide the finishing touches. They explained what they were looking for and our team helped to translate that into reality.
“It’s a little different to our usual work but it was a fun project to work on and great to see the story of the makeover from start to finish and how the FSP products were used. It’s great to help two such worthwhile makeovers.”
The firm also helped a landscaping firm secure victory at the recent RHS Tatton show. FSP designed a bespoke copper fronted waterfall feature for Beesley Landscapes’ Urban Glade showcase design in the Young Landscaper / Young Planter competition that scooped a gold medal.
