Surge in popularity for renewable energy boilers leads to boost for Mid Wales firm
A surge in demand for an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating systems has placed a sustainable energy firm from Welshpool at the heart of a green revolution.
Organic Energy helped to make UK the third largest market for ÖkoFEN, Europe’s leading wood pellet boiler manufacturer, in 2014.
Herbert Ortner, the founder of ÖkoFEN, recently visited the Mid Wales headquarters of Organic Energy and pledged his continuing support to the pioneering firm.

Organic Energy is the sole distributor in the UK and Ireland for Austria-based ÖkoFEN, which is at the cutting edge of wood pellet boiler design and manufacture.
Since signing an exclusive supply deal more than a decade ago, Organic Energy has developed a network of trained installers across the country to meet demand for ÖkoFEN products.
Andy Boroughs, Managing Director of Organic Energy, said talks between the two specialists included exciting plans for future developments.
“ÖkoFEN continue to be the leading specialists in pellet heating and has some very innovative new products planned for launch over the next few years.
“We have driven forward the rapid growth in the UK market and were delighted to hear that the UK is now the third largest market for the ÖkoFEN range.
“Customers recognise the significant cost savings that wood pellet boilers can offer and thanks to our network of trained installers across the country we are able to meet demand for the products.
“In recognition of this, Mr Ortner will be returning as guest of honour at an event we will be hosting later this year to recognise our best installers,” he added.
Increasingly popular
The ÖkoFEN range of fully automatic wood pellet boilers uses a relatively cheap, renewable, sustainable and low carbon fuel, making it an increasingly popular form of energy in the UK.
The Government’s Renewable Heating Incentive – a payment for generating heat from renewable sources that is now available for domestic properties – has also supported the growth in demand for renewable energy sources.
Mr Ortner said: “We are delighted with the sales growth from Organic Energy. In Austria, 70 per cent of sales come directly from word of mouth recommendations from other customers and this is starting to be reflected in the UK.
“It is a very exciting time in the renewable energy market in the UK and Organic Energy is at the heart of that. I look forward to continuing and developing the relationship between our two companies.”
Organic Energy in Welshpool also supplies solar thermal hot water systems to home owners and businesses throughout the UK.
