‘West Midlands shift but the region now needs delivery’: McPhillips managing director gives budget reaction

McPhillips managing director, Paul Inions, said: “Today’s budget marks a real shift in how the West Midlands is funded, including through the through new Good Growth Funds.
“Keeping 100% of business rates locally and, from 2028, a share of income tax gives the region long-term funding it controls and can plan around too.
“For those of us building the region’s infrastructure, both above and below ground, that means the public sector can plan ahead, and the private sector and its supply chain have the certainty to work together and deliver on that plan.
“But we’ve heard the rhetoric before, and what the region needs now is delivery. We have the resources, the skills and the desire to deliver locally. We now need the planning system unlocked and funding to come through, so we can get on with it.
“We know what’s possible. McPhillips has delivered transformation projects across the region, from the £3.18 million Snow Hill public realm scheme in the heart of Birmingham’s business district to the Dudley Road improvement scheme, where we are now completing the fourth and final phase after a decade of work.
Projects like these don’t just change the road layout or the skyline. They unlock land, open up investment and create opportunities for the communities around them. If today’s commitments are followed through, the region can do much more of that.”
