Work under way on Hereford Enterprise Zone
Work is under way on a new £1.6 million development in Hereford that will accommodate around 40 jobs.
Pontrilas based Collins Design and Build Ltd is the main contractor for the development of business units at Skylon Park, the Hereford Enterprise Zone in Rotherwas, looking to be open in the New Year.
Featuring two buildings totalling 1,000 square metres, the units have been designed for small to medium sized enterprises.
Discussions are already in advanced stages with a high quality business to occupy the larger unit, which at around 650 sq m covers two thirds of the development.
The new units, named Skylon Place, will complement the Zone’s Skylon Court, a £1.7 million development offering high quality business space, workshops and flexible units.
Hereford Enterprise Zone board member Councillor Graham Powell said: “There is a proven demand for business space for high quality start up or grow on companies that are not in a position to build their own developments.
“This need is not being met by the private development market so we need to create the property to allow them to expand. The project will provide employment space to help generate around 40 new jobs that will provide an additional £1.6m into the economy every year.”
Chairman of the Zone, Bill Jackson, added: “New businesses in these units, alongside those that will be accommodated in the Skylon Court development, will bring supply chain benefits to the local area as well.
“One company is already in advanced talks to occupy the larger 600 square metre unit so we are anticipating high demand for the remaining space.”
Skylon Park is already home to a regional centre for Western Power Distribution and construction industry supplier Marches Global. Beck Products, a leading UK supplier to the construction and horticultural industries, also has a base on the Park. A number of other projects are under construction.
Businesses moving onto Skylon Park can benefit from a range of incentives including simplified and free planning, superfast and ultrafast broadband and business rates relief.
